What is the difference between an Osteopath and a Chiropractor?

Osteopaths and chiropractors are both healthcare professionals who specialize in the diagnosis and treatment of musculoskeletal disorders. They use manual manipulation to restore the normal function of body parts and improve the movement of joints. The two therapies are very similar in terms of the overall approach and often used interchangeably to achieve the same results.

However, there are a few key differences between the two.

  • Osteopathy focuses more on the relationship between structure and function, and some of the treatments may involve additional modalities such as stretching and massage. Osteopaths may also focus on preventative healthcare and holistic approaches to healthcare.

  • Chiropractic primarily deals with the adjustment of the spine and other joints. Generally, chiropractors use higher-force manipulation techniques compared to osteopaths, although both therapies may involve similar techniques.

Osteopaths believe that the body can heal itself if it is given the right support, and aim to provide that support by eliminating underlying sources of pain or discomfort.

The decision of which professional to visit ultimately comes down to personal preference and the type of injury or condition being treated. Those who are looking for a more holistic approach may find an osteopath to be the best option.

I love what I do, and I love to see the relief on my patient’s faces, and see them get back to the life they used to enjoy. It is especially rewarding see babies and children heal naturally and enjoy life to the full..
